We will discuss RAW vs JPEG, proper file organization and archiving your images. We will also cover accessories such as lenses, flashes, and other accessories and why you may or may not need them.

DSLR Camera Operation
Basic Photography - Composition & Lighting
This class will cover Composition and Lighting. Lighting and Composition are essential to quality photography. Knowing these concepts will set your photos apart from the typical snapshots whether your are taking family vacation pictures, landscapes, or professional grade portrait & wedding pictures. Composition will explore framing, rule of thirds, expansion & compression, as well as other compositional techniques to improve your photography. Lighting will discuss the 3 characteristics of light: Quality, Direction and Color. We will cover white balance in great detail in this class.

Beyond the Basics - Exposure
In this course we will help you get out of "auto" and explore the basic of exposure: Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO with an emphasis on using these concepts for creativity. Knowing when to select certain exposure settings will take your photography to the next level. The concepts taught in this class will explore how to freeze or blur moving subjects, and how to isolate your subject from the background through depth-of-field control.

Flash Photography
Learn the basics of how to use flash to add light effectively to your photos. In this course we will discuss how flash works, exposing properly with flash, as well as tips and techniques to help you improve your flash photos. We will discuss the built-in flash and auxiliary flash "Speedlights". Please check our online schedule for class dates and times.

Boy Scout Merit Badge Class
Join our qualified and registered BSA Merit Badge Councilor for a fun filled workshop learning about photography. You will complete all requirements necessary to EARN your badge. Scouts will need to bring a digital camera with them to the workshop and should wear their uniform.
During this 4 hour workshop we will discuss elements that affect the quality of a picture such as light, exposure, and composition. We will also discuss film vs. digital photography and careers available in the photo industry. We will then go on a photo walk to take photographs for requirement 4a or 4b. After the photo walk, we will return to The Imaging Depot to print, mount, display and discuss the Scout's photos.
Class fees include all materials and supplies required to complete all the requirements for this merit badge.
Scouts participating in this workshop will complete all requirements to earn this merit badge and will receive their "blue card" at the end of class.

GROUP DISCOUNTS: If your scout group would like to participate we offer a discount of $5.00 per scout for groups of 5 or more when registered together and pre-paid.
