As you may have heard, last Friday, Ritz Camera the parent corporation of Inkley's camera stores filed bankruptcy and closed the doors of many of their stores including those in Ogden, Riverdale, and Bountiful. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to The Imaging Depot.
Back in 1947 I began my career in the photo industry with the idea of helping people capture and share their photo memories. I started with one of my first retail locations in downtown Ogden and grew the Inkley's chain to over 30 stores where we helped people enjoy the art and science of photography on a daily basis.
In 1996 I decided that it was time to retire and I sold all of the stores including the "Inkley's" name to Ritz Camera. I enjoyed retirement for several years but soon discovered that while retirement may be great for some, It wasn't for me.
Two years ago I decided to get back into the business of helping people with their photography and with the expert help of my son Mat, we opened The Imaging Depot located in the old Greyhound Bus Depot on Historic 25th street.
At our new store you'll find an amazing selection of cameras and lenses at great prices. We also have a huge selection of photo accessories and camera batteries. We are a full service professional photo lab and offer everything from digital prints to photo restoration and canvas gallery wraps. We also have a terrific photo school where we teach classes for every level of photographer including one-on-one instruction.
Our goal at The Imaging Depot is to help you enjoy taking pictures. We want to help you capture the moment and then share it with your loved ones. We are passionate about photography and are committed to being a part of the local community.
We have exciting plans for The Imaging Depot and plan expand into some of the former Ritz/Inkley's locations as soon as possible. If you are a former Inkley's customer, please come visit us. If you are an Inkley's employee who has suddenly lost your job, please send your resume to jobs@theimagingdepot.com and we'll be in contact soon.
Sincerely,
Ron & Mat Inkley

Head on over to the popular "Or so she says" blog and check out the great giveaways and discounts for Mother's Day including a 20x30 canvas gallery wrap from us here at The Imaging Depot. Here's what "She" says about The Imaging Depot:
If you ever come to Utah, you have to visit Historic 25th street in downtown Ogden. It's one of those places where you gather up your girlfriends and spend an afternoon eating, visiting the Farmer's Market, and checking out the shops. It's one of my favorite places! The buzz is everywhere about 25th Street's newest shop, The Imaging Depot. This HUGE, technology and customer service driven, modern shop is every photographer's dream...from professional all the way down to I-barely-know-what-I'm-doing-with-this-camera. At first, I was like, "eh, another printing shop with camera equipment," until I walked inside. There were photography classes going on, customers printing their own pictures, camera equipment everywhere, and professional employees helping people create, at every turn. There's printing being done on metal, slate, slap bracelets, canvas, wallpaper, you name it. Things I had never heard of! The photo books were gorgeous, a zillion times nicer than the Shutterfly one's I've made. The paper quality was top of the line, and all the options on bindings and layouts really caught my attention. Another bonus to printing with The Imaging Depot is that they're a pro-lab, they'll personally color correct your photos for you, even when you use their online service. So, you don't get your finished product with poor looking photos. Something I'm personally excited about is their photography and photoshop classes, which heaven knows I need. Really, they're something for everyone...especially for Mom. So, head on down there, or visit their shop online, and they'll take good care of you!
The Imaging Depot is offering the winner a 20 x 30 custom photo canvas wrap, valued at $136 dollars, plus free shipping! Everyone else can receive 20% off printing services or photo gifts. Just enter the online code "orsoshesays" at checkout, or mention "Or so she says..." discount in the store. This offer expires May 12, 2012, the day before Mother's Day, so get crackin! Also, take note of their current sale, 100 pre-paid 12x12 scrapbook pages for just $1.39 each.

Canon has announced two new versions of its coveted Wide Angle Lenses and a new version of its popular 24-70mm Standard Zoom Lens for professionals and photo enthusiasts. The new EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM lenses use a rear focusing system, high-speed CPU, and a powerful ring-type Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) with optimized AF algorithms for faster auto focusing and sharp images. With large apertures these new lenses deliver beautiful, soft backgrounds for superior image quality.
"Our heritage is our optics with over 70 years of expertise, we look to continually further our promise to our users and deliver the ultimate image quality," said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. "These new lenses are powerful tools for photographic and video enthusiasts to pair with Canon cameras to help enable and enhance their creative vision."
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens for Harsh and Rigorous Conditions
Canon continues the tradition of ensuring the Company's highest quality optical performance in its L-series lenses with the launch of the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM zoom lens. This new version of one of Canon's most popular lenses utilizes one Super UD lens element and two UD lens elements to help achieve outstanding image quality throughout the full zoom range. The result is significantly reduced chromatic aberration in the outer area at wide-angle, high resolution and contrast in images and crisp clear edges around the subject. The lens coatings have been optimized to ensure exceptional color balance while minimizing ghosting, and reduced spherical aberration. With a circular nine-blade diaphragm, the lens delivers soft backgrounds and incredible bokeh.
In demand by architectural, corporate, adventure and professional photographers of nearly every discipline, the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens combines amazing image quality with enhanced durability. Highly resistant to dust and water, the new lens has enhanced durability and weather sealing. The lens also features a zoom lock lever to secure the zoom position for safe transport, and fluorine coatings on the front and rear glass surfaces to reduce smears and fingerprints, making it an ideal lens regardless of the conditions.
The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens is expected to be available in April for an approximate retail price of $2,299.00.
Canon Standard Prime Lenses with Optical Image Stabilizer: EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM & EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM
Empowering landscape and wide-angle photographers with improved optical performance, Canon has upgraded both its EF 24mm and EF 28mm lenses with Image Stabilization technology and Ultrasonic Motor-powered auto focus. Both lenses feature Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology providing up to four shutter speed stops of correction. With the Optical Image Stabilizer turned on, photographers can capture sharp wide-angle images in low-light settings reducing the need for a flash or a tripod. New aspherical lens elements improve the peripheral image quality and a seven-blade circular diaphragm delivers beautiful, soft backgrounds. The silent and smooth operation of each lens makes them ideal choices for shooting video as well. The EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM lenses each have a minimum focusing distances of 0.20m and 0.23m, respectively.
The EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM lens is expected to be available in June for an approximate retail price of $849.99, while the EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM lens is expected to be available in June for an approximate retail price of $799.99.

Nikon has announced the release of the Nikon D800 FX-format digital SLR camera. The D800 offers the world's highest* effective pixel count of 36.3-million pixels, and is equipped with the new EXPEED 3 image-processing engine and a 91K-pixel (approximately 91,000 pixels) RGB sensor for overwhelming definition and image quality.
The Imaging Depot is now accepting pre-orders on the D800 and D800E.
Nikon D800 $2999.95 - Available March 2012
Nikon D800E $3299.95 - Available April 2012
D800 Primary Features
New Nikon FX-format CMOS image sensor
The D800 is equipped with a new Nikon FX-format CMOS image sensor and the new EXPEED 3 image-processing engine for Nikon digital SLR cameras. This new image-processing engine is faster and offers greater performance. The camera also offers the world's highest* effective pixel count of 36.3-million pixels. When combined with the sharp rendering of NIKKOR lenses, images exhibiting resolution equal to that achieved with medium-format digital cameras are possible.
The D800 also responds to the demands of professional photographers with a standard sensitivity range of ISO 100–6400, and additional support for equivalents of ISO 50 (Lo 1) and up to ISO 25600 (Hi 2), for superior image and picture quality in dimly lit situations, such as just before sunrise and just after sunset, with shooting of still images as well as movie recording.
*Among interchangeable lens digital SLR cameras equipped with image sensors conforming to the 35-mm film size as of February 7, 2012
New 91K-pixel RGB sensor for the more accurate Advanced Scene Recognition System
The D800 is equipped with a new 91K-pixel (approximately 91,000 pixels) RGB sensor. When a human face is detected in the frame, 3D Color Matrix Metering III bases exposure control on the brightness of that face so that the face is optimally exposed even with backlighting. In addition, the superior resolution of the metering sensor, which makes full use of an incredible 91,000 pixels, enables extremely precise analysis of the scene for more accurate control over autofocusing, auto exposure, i-TTL flash control, and auto white balance.
*There is no display in the viewfinder that shows when a face or faces have been recognized.
Multi-area mode Full HD D-Movie for movie recording using one of two movie formats
The D800 records movies exhibiting superior resolution with optimal processing of information acquired from the 36.3-million pixel image sensor. Recording of 1920 x 1080p/30-fps full-HD movies is supported, and users can choose to record using the FX-based movie format or the DX-based movie format according to recording conditions. The FX-based movie format offers a shallow depth-of-field with an emphasis on blur characteristics while the DX-based movie format enables recording of movies that bring subjects closer when lenses with short focal lengths are used. The D800 is also equipped with a headphone jack and supports precise adjustment of microphone sensitivity. In addition, it supports simultaneous display of movies or the movie live view display in the camera monitor and on an external monitor. Further, the D800 responds to the needs of professionals who require uncompressed movie files with the ability to record movies directly to an external HDMI recorder in movie live view mode. The D800 also offers a time-lapse photography function that captures images at a selected interval and then combines the images to create a time-lapse movie that shows the changes in a particular scene that occur over time.
Viewfinder frame coverage of approximately 100%*1 and a lightweight and durable water- and dust-resistant body
The viewfinder built into the D800 supports a frame coverage of approximately 100%*1 and magnification of approximately 0.7x*2. Adoption of a magnesium alloy for the body gives the camera the same level of durability as the D700 with a weight approximately 10% less.
*1With FX-format image area
*2With 50-mm f/1.4 lens at infinity, -1.0 m-1
Support for high-speed continuous shooting and a variety of battery types with the Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D12 (optional)
The MB-D12 supports the Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries EN-EL15 and EN-EL18, common AA batteries, and the AC Adapter EH-5a/b (with Power Connector EP-5B). When the MB-D12 is mounted on the D800, high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 6 fps* using the DX-format image area is possible. The MB-D12 also offers the added convenience of controls, including shutter-release button, AF-ON button and multi-selector, for vertical shooting. What's more, the same seals as those used for the D800 with its magnesium body offer superior resistance to dust and water.
*When powered by the AC adapter, or AA batteries or Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL18 with the MB-D12. Measured according to CIPA guidelines.
Other D800 Functions and Features
The D800E with specifications for even greater resolution with an effective pixel count of 36.3-million pixels
In-camera disabling of the aliasing and moiré pattern reduction operation performed by the optical low-pass filter built into the D800E allows light passing through a NIKKOR lens to strike photodiodes directly for even greater resolution. This makes this model optimal for landscape and artistic photography with which higher resolution and clear definition is demanded. With the exception of the modification indicated above, all other functions and characteristics are the same as with the D800.
